This is Vince and today I’m bringing you your weekly dose of marketing food.
Let me start off by introducing myself. My name is Vince De Jonghe and I’m 20 years old. I live in a country called Belgium and though its size is rather small, we are quite important as we’re the capital of Europe!
Because of the financial crisis and just the general importance of business, I started studying Marketing. I’m now in my 2nd year and I will be posting blogs weekly for the entire semester.
The first topic I wanted to talk about in our blog called “Creativity – Innovation – Trends” is the idea that these things aren’t as important as one might think.
We all know how popular brands like Apple and Abercrombie & Fitch are. Be it because of their product design, product features or their unique stores (in Abercrombie’s case), these brands are widely known because at a certain point in time they were innovative.
On the other hand, we have brands that haven’t had major innovations in a long time that are still one of the most successful brands in the world. I’m thinking about Coca-Cola for example. While other brands think they HAVE to innovate, other brands show that it’s not that big of a deal.
I guess this is also very dependent on the branch you’re in. The technology field has to be innovative to satisfy consumers but other fields might not need this.

What are your thoughts on this?

-Vince
